Dreams and Shadows
Barbara Ryman

10th Sept – 27th Sept 2014

Barbara Ryman has been a leading influence in Australian Contemporary jewellery primarily for her exquisite and extraordinary work with vitreous enamel.

"I have been a Jeweller and an Enameller for thirty years. Shaping and manipulating metal gives me great enjoyment. There are many techniques that add exciting creativity to jewellery making such as piercing, etching, texturing and the many forms of vitreous enamelling.

For my own work, it is the inclusion of enamel that has kept me particularly intrigued and excited for so long; it has become an integral part of my creative language. Since 2001, I have had the opportunity to study Japanese enamelling techniques in Nagoya, Japan. I have visited there six times, with my last trip in April 2012."

Stanley Street Gallery is excited to be exhibiting Barbara's recent work in Gallery 1 and "the Tank".
