In my practise, I use old natural history illustrations and images from biology texts as inspiration. I am intrigued by processes, consciousness and connections in nature. As I work, elements from different organisms, often small invertebrates, will be combined and transformed as a way of exploring these ideas.
Catriona Secker is an artist and teacher living in Sydney. She received a BFA from the College of Fine Arts, NSW in 1999, and received a Master of Electronic Arts majoring in animation from the Australian National University in 2003. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Australia and Hong Kong. Her artworks are inspired by old natural history illustrations and biology texts and are influenced by visual styles ranging from illustration, fine art, visionary and decorative arts.
