Reactions is the solo exhibition by internationally recognised artist Derryn Tal, held at Stanley Street Gallery, Darlinghurst Sydney.
"I explore cause and effect; I create change; I can control it & it can be out of my control, as is the essence of change. As I am the creator & conductor, I capture moments within a reaction and I am left with a memory. This captured moment then becomes the creation - orchestrated by me.”
This exhibition is an exploration of the idea of “cause and effect”. Tal’s unconventional approach to mixed media results in unique exciting work.
Many different mediums & materials are used to create reactions - acrylics, oil, glazes, inks, wax, acetone, bitumen & chemical additives and more.
“In my most recent works, I am using numerous liquids & a reacting agent to create the image. I capture moments in a rapidly moving reaction using photography and video. I have been developing this technique over a number of years. I am very excited by this work and by its uniqueness.”
“I was always surrounded by art. My mother being an extremely talented potter, and my father a collector of tribal and modern art.” Derryn Tal spent her childhood in South Africa.
