“Fresh, free and full of feeling” is the description Amy Dynan ascribes to her forthcoming exhibition at Stanley Street Gallery. Over the
past six months, the 33-year-old artist has been working on her latest series of charcoal works on paper, fuelled by an epic stint of international travel and residencies (2018) in France, Scotland, Iceland and Norway after receiving the 2018 CREATENSW Professional Development Grant, the 2018 KUNSTNARHUSET MESSEN Artist in Residence, ÅLVIK, Norway; 2018 DRAWInternational Artist in Residence, Caylus, France, May 2018 and the 2017 Hill End, NSW Artist in Residence Program.
Venturing deep into these dramatic landscapes, Dynan explores the movement of water as a symbol for who and what we are; resulting in landscapes that hover between real and surreal, material and ethereal. She sees drawing as a fundamental means of expression that is often overlooked as a preparatory stage in lieu of master artworks and is driven to continue to contribute to contemporary drawing in Australia.
