Stanley Street Gallery will showcase new and significant works by Margaret Ackland, Amy Dynan, and Oscar Martín de Burgos—three artists whose practices span decades and reflect deeply personal, poetic, and philosophical engagements with the world. The booth will highlight themes of transformation, spiritual reflection, and the intimate relationship between the human and natural worlds through three distinct material languages: watercolour, pastel, and sculpture..
Margaret Ackland presents a body of large-scale watercolours that interrogate the concept of the "witnessed object". Household items and personal trinkets rendered with luminous detail and startling scale. A four-time Archibald finalist and Portia Geach Prize winner, Ackland’s new works carry forward her fascination with the overlooked, offering both technical brilliance and emotional depth. Her practice connects historical techniques with contemporary commentary, and includes one of her most ambitious new still life/portrait hybrids to date.
Building on her recent exhibiiton 'Flight of the Sirens, Amy Dynan’s works invite viewers into moments of stillness, power, and emotional resonance in powerful, atmospheric compositions. Using soft pastel in large format, Dynan captures the pulse of the sea, land, and sky in works that evoke the sublime and the sensory. Dynan’s art evokes a spiritual consciousness. “To be alive is a magnificent, messy, sensory overload—and how lucky we are to feel it fully.”
Making his Australian art fair debut is Spanish artist, Oscar Martín de Burgos. He approaches sculpture as a mystic pursuit, his spiritual sensibility drives his practice as he seeks to express the presence of an unseen guiding force. Martin's works vary in scale and material however for Sydney Contemporary he is bringing bronze, brass and aluminium works. His works are often described as meditative and timeless and bridge ancient symbology with contemporary abstraction.
Together, these artists offer a compelling and contemplative experience that invites us to reconsider how we inhabit the world.
